The Brief

The brief for this project was clear from the outset. The clients had already appointed Anthony Murray as their architect, who produced detailed drawings to transform the existing kitchen, dining room and an ageing conservatory into a single, open-plan living space. The conservatory was in poor condition and needed to be removed to ensure the new layout worked properly.

The Work

As part of the build, we carefully retained the original side wall of the former conservatory. This required underpinning the wall to provide adequate structural support, as the existing foundations were not sufficient. All work was carried out strictly in line with the architect’s drawings and the structural engineer’s design, ensuring the build was delivered exactly as intended.

The project involved significant structural alterations, including extensive steelwork. One of the beams installed was among the largest we have worked with, requiring careful planning, coordination and a skilled team on site to carry out the installation safely and efficiently.

The Result

The finished space delivers a much larger, open-plan kitchen and dining area that works perfectly for a growing family. In addition, the project included a new master bedroom with an ensuite, along with an updated family bathroom.

A standout feature is the vaulted ceiling in the master bedroom, which creates a real sense of height, light and openness. Throughout the property, the new spaces flow naturally and feel as though they have always been part of the original house. As the photographs show, the end result speaks for itself.
