  • “We appointed Luke and RPM team to repair a roofing structural issue. We then later added carpentry, plumbing and electrical work. Total of about 3 weeks worth of work. They took 4 days to quote versus other companies who took 2 weeks. They were not the cheapest but they were available in the time frame we needed. Luke and his RPM team were very confident, hard working, pro-active and a friendly bunch. Luke provided good communication, strategic thinking, good admin and honesty. They met all our timelines and it was a pleasure working with them.”

  • “RPM completed a full refurbishment (in and out), single storey extension and loft conversion of our St. Albans home over the course of a year, finishing in May 2023. As you'd hope of any builder, they are reliable and their work is of a good standard. However, what sets RPM apart in our experience are two aspects - firstly, they have the expertise and experience to take on any task within their company, helping the process run smoothly and making all our lives easier without having to manage lots of sub-contractors. Secondly, and for us most impressively, they are very responsive and have excellent aftercare - there was never an issue they couldn't overcome in the build process itself, while they were happy to come back and resolve any minor snagging issues even several months after completion of the main work. Ultimately, RPM, Luke and his team are good people to work with - they make what is an intense and sometimes stressful process an enjoyable, satisfying and successful experience and we love living in our 'new' home. With all this in mind, we are more than happy to recommend RPM and we ourselves will continue to work with them in the future.”

  • “We had an extensive building project done on our house in 2020. RPM were the prime contractors and also did much of the project management including coordination of work by sub-contractors (e.g. flooring, electrics, new doors and windows).

The scope of the project was to make several large-scale changes to a 1930s 4-bedroom house to turn it into a modern family home. Principal tasks were the creation of a new large living space by combining rooms and extending the space into the garden, building a new dormer bathroom for the main bedroom, and extending and rebuilding the utility room. This all necessitated extensive reworking of the house plumbing and electrics. The project also included extensive refurbishment and redecoration throughout the house.

RPM operated as a series of teams responsible for specific aspects of the work e.g. groundwork, brickwork, roofing &c. Liaison and communication with us was first class. The complexity of the project meant several aspects of the design had to be adjusted as things progressed, and the consultation needed to make this happen was done very effectively. Because of the Covid-19 lockdowns (and possibly Brexit), there were disruptions caused by the non-availability of the workforce and difficulty in obtaining various material, but these were dealt with sensibly and in a straightforward manner to minimise delay. Any problems with sub-contractors (such as faults in the large steel required in the construction) were dealt with efficiently. Where our action was required, for example to sort out the relocation of the mains electricity supply with the supplier, this was made very clear and advice provided if required.

The system of tracking the work against the forecast and billing worked very well. We were never in any doubt about what we were being billed for or how much remained to pay. Any adjustments to the costings, for example when we asked for additional work to be done, were clearly and accurately indicated in the bills that were submitted. Correction of faults and snagging was carried out without question and the final bill only paid after Council Building Controls had signed off on the work.

Those working on the project were without exception friendly, good-natured and helpful. They made several helpful suggestions about how to improve various aspects of the project, the majority of which we took on board. They were entirely trustworthy and although we moved out of the house for several months while the major building works were carried out, we had no qualms at all about allowing them access to the property, knowing they could be relied on to secure it at the end of each working day. They were neat workers and made a point of leaving the house tidy after they had finished work.

Overall, RPM did a very good job and we are extremely pleased with the end result. Many thanks to all those from RPM who were involved.”

  • “Just to say we have now got the certificate. With that in mind I just wanted to take the opportunity to thank everyone at RPM for all the excellent work that they did for us and also for all your communication and help, which really kept us informed. Any issues were swiftly dealt with and we always felt confident that they would be resolved.

We love our kitchen, and it has made a real difference to the house. We have heard many stories of builders that have let people down, but we were so lucky to have your firm working for us. As well as a build that we are thrilled with, the house was always left tidy, the workforce friendly and accommodating, and Luke and Kevin always available to help. I will (and have) recommended you to friends and colleagues and very much hope you will be back to help us with other things that will be needed on the house.

Please pass our thanks and appreciation on to everyone involved.”

  • “RPM have been absolutely amazing on our house renovation. It was our first big project and there was a huge amount to do. The RPM team got stuck in straight away and I was really impressed with how quickly they moved forward with everything. Although we had a big picture idea of what we wanted for our home, Luke really helped to guide us on the smaller details in the house that we hadn't considered, which really brought it all together. The overall project management was really organised. We had a tight deadline to move our family in and the teams coordinated extremely well to help us hit the deadline. Thank you RPM – you did an amazing job and I would highly recommend you!”

  • “The RPM team carried out a bedroom conversion and complete re-tiling of a bathroom during 2020. I was kept well informed throughout and the work was done to a high standard. Most importantly for me, all members of the team both on and offsite were friendly, approachable and wanted to deliver the best outcome for us. I would thoroughly recommend RPM (and have done!) to anyone looking to carry out building work in the local area.”

  • “When we first spoke to Kevin, he told us that RPM didn't feel the need to advertise as they had enough work through customer recommendations. Having now recommended the company to a number of friends in the past year, I can see the truth in his words.

We are delighted with our single storey extension; it's better than we had ever imagined in terms of space and light. Luke was available throughout the build to inform and advise us and paid regular visits to the site. We were able to talk through any queries and had full confidence in the advice we were given.

Apart from the obvious delay of lockdown, work on our extension was continuous—we were never left wondering where the builders were. As one team finished, the next was usually only a day or two behind. Mess was kept to a minimum and the site was always left tidy after each job.

Everyone that we dealt with at RPM—from the office staff to the teams on site—was polite, helpful, and friendly, and all spoke highly of each other and of the company.

One review we read said that the whole RPM team felt like they were part of the family, and I have to say this was also true for us. I can honestly say that we missed them when they left.

We will definitely use RPM again for any future work and have absolutely no hesitation in recommending them.”

  • “We initially hired RPM on the basis of exceptional reviews from previous satisfied clients of theirs, and their extremely detailed quote which reassured us as to what the full and final costs would be. The team were more than happy to go back and forth, adding and removing items to adapt the planned project scope to fit our budget, and giving us estimates for costs such as decorating, bathroom fixtures, and fittings and so on which wouldn't be finalised until rather further through the project.

We were happy with the speed and quality of work from the outset - throughout the build we were in constant communication with Luke, one of RPM's directors, and whenever we came up with an issue (however minor), it was dealt with speedily and to our satisfaction. Whenever the build team came up with a challenge they hadn't anticipated (thankfully not often!), they came up with a variety of options to work around it, and we would work with them to make the best decision for us.

We were particularly impressed with how professional and accommodating the team all were. As our first major building project, we were understandably nervous and rather prone to asking silly or obvious questions. Everyone was always happy to explain or go through processes and so on until we were completely happy and confident in our decisions.

We extended the scope partway through the project as our budget changed, and RPM was very accommodating in terms of adding in the extra work, though it did obviously mean the project took rather longer than we'd originally hoped. The few snags we found along the way were dealt with in a matter of a few days (hours in some instances!), which we were extremely grateful for.

The overall finish and quality of the work done was to a very high standard - the new rooms still look amazing 6 months after completion, and we will have no hesitation using RPM again for our next building project.”

  • "Dear Luke

As I write, we are on the last furlong with the finishing line in sight. It was July 21st when Andrew and Nigel turned up with the backhoe, mechanical wheelbarrow, portaloo, and skip, along with a pair of broad friendly smiles. Our journey into the abyss had started well and has continued well to this day.

As you know only too well, those of us who run our own dog and pony shows often get the stiff end of an email, SMS, and phone call. Rest assured, this is not any of those.

I start my 63rd year on Saturday. As such, I have owned many homes from London, Cambridge, and St. Albans, and I have worked with many building companies and independent trades over the years.

I do not express this lightly; it is with true meaning that I say RPM is head and shoulders above any building company I have worked with in the past 40 years.

There are contractual agreements, MOAs, work executed, and invoices paid. These are par for the course and expected between supplier and client. What is often undervalued and misunderstood in business is service, and it is service that is by far the most important element of any contractual agreement.

I will, if you allow me to indulge, say that the service provision from RPM has been just outstanding. I can't think of another word that encapsulates how we feel.

All of your staff have been polite; there has not been an inappropriate word spoken on site. Everyone has been first class, always acted in a professional manner at all times, they have been on time, best in class, explained what they are doing, and kept our home clean after each visit.

I can’t remember all the names, so please forgive me here. Our thanks go out to Andrew and Nigel for the groundworks, Dan for his bricklaying skills, Marco the chippy, Eddy and Shaun – Eddy for his caustic humour that I enjoyed, and Shaun for being one of the nicest young guys I have had the pleasure of having here – and Michael & James, the floor layers. Outside of these fine guys, I reserve a special thanks to two: the first is Rob. Rob is not just a trade; Rob is a craftsman. We have a finish in our difficult tiling that should be in Home and Garden.

Our special thanks are extended to Jake, the plumber. He is both the first you need to see and hopefully never again. I am sure I have missed so many, but they are all equally thanked.

We will see you again in 2020; it’s coming fast. Until then, may I wish you so much success. You truly deserve it.

In closing, please pass along my sincere regards to Kevin, and if you ever need a client reference or want to show a potential nervous customer one of your projects, we are always open and willing to assist.

    Sincerely Yours, George.

PS - We made 720 cups of tea and got through two large jars of Gold Blend."
